What causes our Functional Yoga MedicineTM Teachers to be in such high demand, get premium-paying clients, and truly improve the lives of their students physically, emotionally and spiritually?
After almost dying three times from a chronic disease at the hands of inept doctors, there’s one thing I can tell you for sure…
If it weren’t for yoga and functional medicine,
I wouldn’t be here today.
After being diagnosed with Lupus over 20 years ago, I realized the gaps in our healthcare system. Despite my knowledge and background as a Physical Therapist, Registered Dietitian, and Functional Medicine Practitioner, I faced challenges overcoming my disease.
My journey was filled with trials and errors, but it led to a profound understanding of what truly makes a difference... Yoga.
DR. CONNIE'S CREDENTIALS
Not only has it saved my life, but it’s restored the quality of life of many of my patients.
Which is why, when it comes to yoga, I'm not messing around.
Through my yoga and functional medicine practice, I've gained a profound understanding of the interconnectedness of everything in the body…
Allowing me to:
rise above crippling stress and discomfort
find the strength to choose myself in emotionally abusive relationships and begin my journey towards total emotional healing, which has allowed me to overcome serious illnesses that were ravaging my body.
tap into a sense of inner peace and empowerment that transformed me on every level – mind, body, and soul.

I know first hand that yoga has the power to change lives…but only when it’s being taught by the right teacher with clear intentions...
As a clinician with over two decades of experience who owes their personal healing journey to these modalities, I've made it my misson to create a Yoga Teacher Training program that fuses ancient yoga wisdom and cutting-edge functional medicine into one, because I realized. . .
The yoga market is packed with generic programs that produce cookie-cutter instructors who lack foundational knowledge of the human body, including essential anatomical basis.
These are our incredible yoga instructors at Functional Yoga Medicine that will be teaching you the inner and outer workings of yoga
Bethany Lord
Bethany is an E-RYT 200 Hr instructor, currently finishing up her 300 Hr Yoga Teacher Training.
Bethany found yoga, like many, at a low point in her life. She was dealing with a post-partum depression and weight gain. Through her practice she found herself and healed her body and mind. Bethany truly believes yoga is for everyone. Her hope is that every person who takes a class with her feels inspired and empowered to look within. She teaches a powerful but playful class. She takes the practice but not herself too serious.
Jessica Gilreath
Jessica is our eclectic collector of knowledge and experience. She has a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and Counseling from Point University, Certified Addiction Counselor Degree (CAC-II) from Mercer University, she has her Classical Pilates Teacher Training Certification from Reformation Pilates, she is a Licensed Massage Therapist specializing in therapeutic massage, and has graduated from our 200hr Functional Yoga Medicine Program (formerly Alkaline Yoga Teacher Training Program)
Jessica is a specialist in healing arts. She has worked alongside many talented health professionals during her life and feels that she has the gift of accepting others exactly where they are and coming alongside them as they travel the road of happy destiny together.
Both Jessica and Bethany's training in anatomy and alignment will transform your yoga journey, enhancing both your physical and energetic health, and guiding you to be a yoga teacher focused on holistic healing.
Many YTT programs are expensive, costing thousands of dollars without the results you are looking for. Unfortunately, these programs often:
Causes financial strain, leaving yogis struggling to afford basic expenses like rent
Contribute to the oversaturated market of under-qualified instructors. . . yogis find themselves competing for clients and teaching opportunities in an already crowded field
These programs may fail to provide necessary skills and knowledge to profoundly influence students' lives
The solution? Be Distinctive: To avoid wasting your investment in a subpar yoga teacher training qualifications and skills that help you excel and make a lasting impact in your yoga teaching career.

Let’s be honest:
Most yoga teachers are a dime a dozen
There are tons of them out there, and many of them are underqualified to teach their students safely and confidently.
These ill-equipped teachers are causing unnecessary strain and sprain in their students through their misinformed instruction.
Yoga teachers that instruct like they’re teaching just another exercise class fail to deliver the full benefits of a practice.
Yoga is a powerful, transformational tool.
And in order to wield that tool properly, you need to adequately learn the body’s anatomical composition. . .
You need to understand how your energy centers impact your physical body. . .
That’s what makes this program stand out above the others, and that’s what will make you stand out as a yoga teacher.
Understanding alignment is essential to safe and fruitful yoga practice.
In our training, we focus heavily on the proper alignment of the body in various poses and postures.
That’s because we know the best yoga instructors are the ones who have intimate knowledge of the body’s anatomy and the way it's designed to move. . .
They’re the teachers who understand how to prevent – and heal – injuries through yoga.
Graduates from our program teach with confidence because they understand the body physically and emotionally.
"I honestly feel differently about my life having gone through this process. I have shifted my expectations to inviting grace, joy, and gratitude into my life everyday in hopes that I will never achieve perfection, but always be learning and embracing myself as a work in progress. I guess through compassion and acceptance you could say I have embraced the heart of a Buddhist.
Thanks to Dr. Connie, I truly enjoy teaching and trust in my ability to teach."
-Kristin C.
I truly believe the Functional Yoga Medicine™ Yoga Teacher Training has had a tremendous impact on the person I am today. It is so much more than just yoga teacher training; this program has changed me from the inside out. Still being rather new to yoga when I began my teacher training, I learned so much about the history of yoga, including different forms of classical yoga, all the way to modern yoga practiced today. I am confident in my ability to teach yoga."
-Leslie L.
I came into the program with a little knowledge of yoga and was provided so much learning, about yoga and about myself. It was a balance of learning who I was and what I wanted to achieve and really focusing on the history of yoga, learning the subtleties of the yoga poses we focused on and how to make yoga a restorative process for participants. I walked away with a sense of gratitude and knowing that I can help my clients get to another place in their lives."

What You'll Learn In The Functional Yoga Medicine YTT Program:
We offer a holistic approach with our 200 Hr Functional Yoga Teacher Training, where you'll gain an in-depth understanding of anatomy, coupled with the emotional and spiritual dimensions of yoga instruction.
In Module 1, we dive deep into key concepts in yoga and its holistic healing approach. It covers the "Limbs of Yoga," which are eight integral aspects of yoga philosophy guiding ethical conduct, personal discipline, and spiritual connection. Then we explore the "Types of Yoga," detailing various styles like Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin and more, each offering unique benefits and practices.
Finally, we tap into the "Functional Yoga Medicine Philosophy," an approach integrating yoga with functional medicine principles. This philosophy emphasizes understanding the interconnectedness of bidy, mind, and spirit in health and healing, aiming to tailor yoga practices for therapeutic and personalized wellness solutions.
Module 2 offers a comprehensive introduction to human anatomy relevant to yoga. We begin with the "Anatomical Position," establishing a standard for body alignment. Next, we present a two-part "Introduction to Skeletal System," exploring bone structure and functions. This is followed by an "Overview of the Muscuskeletal System," linking bones and muscles in movement.
The module proceeds with a two-part "introduction to the Muscular System," detailing muscle types and functions. This training concludes with "Types of Joints," examining different joint structures and their roles in facilitating body movement and flexibility.
Module 3 delves into the foundational elements of human anatomy and movement, crucial for understanding yoga and physical training. It starts with anatomical terminology, providing essential vocabulary for describing body parts and positions. We then go into the range and types of body movements.
We explore "Motor Learning Theory," exploring how people acquire and refine movement skills, offering insights into effective teaching and practice methods in yoga and physical training.
Finally, we focus on evaluating individual physical capabilities and limitations, critical for tailored yoga practices.
Module 4 is an engaging and dynamic part of the course, where you get the opportunity to learn a complete "Hot 75" yoga sequence. This module not only teaches the specific poses and flows that make up this sequence, but also gets into the underlying reasons and techniques behind each element.
It's designed to provide a deeper understanding of how and why these sequences are structured as they are, enhancing both the practice and teaching of this specific style of yoga. This module is particularly exciting for those looking to expand their knowledge and skill in conducting comprehensive, fluid yoga sessions.
Understanding the foundations of this sequence will help you create your own yoga sequences later on.
Module 5 focuses on the mental health aspects of yoga, particularly its impact on brain health and stress management. It starts by exploring how yoga and mindfulness practices positively affect brain health, enhancing cognitive functions and emotional well-being.
The module also delves into yoga's role in stress reduction, examining how these practices help manage and alleviate stress. Additionally, we cover the benefits of meditation, highlighting how regular meditation can improve focus, reduce anxiety, and foster a sense of inner peace, making it a vital component of holistic health and wellness in the context of yoga practice.
The EASE Methodology is a holistic approach in Functional Yoga Medicine. Integrating the principles of functional medicine with the holistic practice of yoga, our unique approach emphasizes enhancing overall well-being through a focus on gut health. By specifically targeting the enteric system with tailored yoga asanas, we address both physical and mental health aspects.
Complementing this, we utilize breathwork and meditation, alongside functional medicine insights, to achieve balance in the autonomic system, fostering inner tranquility. Our methodology also prioritizes somatic consciousness, merging the mindfulness of yoga with the bodily understanding provided by functional medicine, to cultivate resilience and promote healing.
Lastly, we aim to empower individuals by blending the wisdom of yoga and insights from functional medicine, enabling them to make informed health decisions. This integrated approach ensures a comprehensive journey towards health and wellness.
Module 7 offers an in-depth exploration of vital skills for successful yoga instruction. It begins with the "Art of Sequencing," teaching you how to craft seamless and engaging yoga sequences that significantly enhance the student experience. Next, it covers "Modifications," providing essential knowledge for adapting poses to meet individual needs, ensuring every class is inclusive and safe for all students.
"Class Design" follows, where you'll learn how to structure your classes to be both engaging and effective. The module also delves into "Tactile Cueing and Manual Touch," guiding you on the subtle art of physical adjustments to improve posture and alignment. Essential safety aspects are addressed in "Precautions and Contraindications," equipping you with the ability to identify and mitigate potential risks in your practice. "Important Teaching Pearls" offers valuable tips and insights to refine your teaching approach.
Finally, the "Code of Ethics" segment ensures that you embrace and uphold the ethical principles vital for responsible and respectful yoga instruction. Overall, this module is designed to provide a comprehensive toolkit for any aspiring yoga teacher.
